Our opening hours are:

10am-6pm Monday to Friday

Summer and Winter

We always try to keep to these times but sometimes in the middle of summer we do open longer hours. At this busy time of year it is always best to phone to make sure we are open if you want to visit out of hours. We try to keep a good level of stock but to order something the usual lead in time is six to eight weeks; some of the larger and more intricate pieces can take longer.

The pottery is situated by the southern shore of Loch Creran some eight miles north of Oban on the A828 Oban to Fort William Road.

Walking & Cycling

Walks, cycle-trails, Forestry Commission, Scottish Natural Heritage, Tralee beach, Ganavan Sands, Port Appin, and for the courageous - Glen Coe and Ben Nevis. The Nevis Range: Mountain bikes (largest downhill course in Britain), hill walks, skiing, etc.

Historic Scotland

Castles: Stalker, The Black Barcaldine, Dunstaffnage, Dunollie, Kilchurn, to name but a few. (Castle Stalker is famous for it's appearance as 'Castle Aargh' in Monty Python and the Holy Grail). Ardchattan Priory, Glen Coe, south of Oban - Temple Wood Standing Stones, Dalriadan ancient Celtic Kings stepping stone (where they were sworn in), Kilmartin House Museum. Then ther is Iona Abbey, Inveraray Jail and Castle, and the Iron Foundry, Taynuilt. There is even an ancient burial cairn on the wee island out in the bay.

On the Water

Sailing and Wind Surfing - Craobh Haven, Dunstaffnage, Creran Moorings (www.creran-moorings.demon.co.uk), Linnhe Marine. The waters around here are known for their clarity and diving is very popular (if a little chilly in the spring!). www.puffin.org.uk. Fishing: Boats out of Oban, Appin etc. most rivers are permit holders only. Trip to the Isles: Caledonian MacBrayne - www.calmac.co.uk

Culture

most pubs in the area have Live Folk Music at least once a week during the summer. (The Barn Bar south of Oban, The Clachaig Inn Glen Coe, are good) Corran Halls: Little Theatre, shows, etc. Art Galleries: John Street Studio, Kranenburg & Fowler Fine Arts, Jolomo Ltd.

Good Food

This are is at last getting a reputation for good locally-caught seafood. Eeusk in Oban, the Hawthorn Restaurant, Benderloch, The Pier House and Airds Hotel, Port Appin, and many more.

Wildlife

One of the largest Common or Harbour seal colonies in Scotlands lives out in the loch, just up the road, if you wait for the tide to start to fall you can watch them haul out on to the tidal rocks and the otters are good to watch on still days, early in the morning or late in the evening. When walking my dogs I quite regularly see Roe and Red Deer, Buzzards, Black Grouse, even the odd Golden Eagle, Pine Martin and Wild Cat have crossed our path (you have to be very quiet). Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary: www.sealsanctuary.co.uk. Oban Rare Breeds Park. www.obanrarebreeds.com

Whisky Trail

There are many distilleries in Scotland and even if you are not partial to the water of life yourself it is quite interesting just to see how it all works.

Driving

The roads around here have some of the most picturesque scenery in Europe and you can see vintage car rallies quite often up here in the summer months. (It's always worthwhile keeping half an eye in the rear view mirror though I will never forget one day as I was driving to Taynuilt I spotted an absolutely gorgeous Ford GT 40 bounding up to my rear bumper ... imagine my surprise when I saw what looked remarkably like Mr Bean frowning at me from the driver's seat! I let him pass as soon as I could and enjoyed the beautiful sound of that barking mad engine. I can only assume Rowan Atkinson doesn't drive a mini on his days off)

Other Pursuits

Golf: Oban, Fort William, Ballachulish, Isle of Eriska, etc.

Horse Riding: Lettershuna Riding Centre, Craobh Haven

Gardens of Argyll: www.gardens-of-argyll.co.uk

Indoor Ice Wall: Kinlochleaven

These are just a few of the things I've thought of off the top of my head... there are many more. Check out the Oban Tourist Board at www.oban.org.uk for more information.
