Making the clay The whole process of making pots takes us about 4 to 6 weeks from start to finish. We mix and blend all our own clay in an old bakery dough mixer to get the strength, colour and consistency we want. (It also cuts the cost of haulage as we don`t have to pay for transporting water, something we have quite a lot of up here.)
Thanks hugely to my Uncle Rag, without his wonderful 1950`s Doughmixer we wouldn`t be able to do this. (In fact if you know of any other doughmixers laying around in a shed or about to be taken to the Scrappy`s please tell us, I know of at least two other potters that want to give one a good home and it seems such a shame to waste such brilliant pieces of engineering.) |
