The Dolomite White Glaze.
One of our older glazes is the Dolomite based white speckle glaze, it does not have any thing in it to make the flecks but the clay has iron within it which comes to the surface during the firing. We use this glaze for inside plain wood ash pieces and for the inside of most lidded pots so it is easy to see when they are clean, we also use it when we hand paint with our cobalt blue and iron brown slip decoration. Placing it to the centre of the stack of the kiln as it does not like too much ash, the wood ash pieces that prefer the raw flame acting to protect them like a sagger in the old coal fired earthenware kilns.
Unless it says Porcelain the piece will be made of Stoneware clay. The Porcelain clay is a pure translucent body which is quite a challenge to throw with but has a lovely effect when it comes out right. It also works well as a clear background for handpainting and the Tenmoku comes out really lush on it.
