The glazes we use.

We mix and blend all our own glazes and as we fire our kiln with wood the ash falls on the surface of the pots, changing the colour and feel of not only the unglazed but the glazed pieces aswell. There are five base glazes and with different slips and hand painting techniques there are quite a few ways of decorating the pots. Most of the domestic range is made in the Dolomite White/Woodash or glazed all over in the White and HandPainted in the blue leaf pattern, also the Cobalt Blue plain or with woodash as well as the Granite HandPainted and the Tenmoku (Black) HandPainted, so if you see a piece but not in the glaze you like we will probably be able to do it for you. We may even have it in stock, as you can imagine we can not represent all of our range here, we can`t even get all of it in the showroom all at once! Though there are some shapes that are difficult to do in some glazes for technical reasons. (Rutile Blue being a good example).

The Granite glaze is made from about 70% Bonawe quarry stone dust (which we pick up from about 5 miles away, just over the hill). We really like it as it never comes out of the kiln the same way twice because it reacts during the firing with the wood ash and it works well with our hand painted Rutile slip on it.
