Graham and Lynda Taylor were at Appin when I first went there both really good potters though Lynda does more painting now, in fact it was partly because I talked to Graham that I plucked up enough courage to ask Joe if I could do an apprenticeship so I suppose you could say it was all his falt that I am here! They are both working at crown studio in the north of England now.

OK here comes the sales pitch - (Though I’m not on commission)...
I have found it very worthwhile belonging to the SPA anyone from the complete amateur to hardened professionals are among our ranks, not only do you get to be on the web site, potters map and the exhibitions, there are Workshop meeting three or four times a year, I don’t get to all of them by any means but the ones I have been to have enabled me to save thousands of pounds in man hours and costs, even if the kind of demonstration on offer at one event isn’t your bag, if you keep an open mind you will most likely see a tip or get a recipe you would not have thought of otherwise, I know I have. Also if you run in to a technical problem you can ask for help, I have been potting now for over twenty five years and you would have thought I’d have come across most problems by now but I was stumped by something only a few months ago and the only way I got a sensible answer to the problem was to ask around my SPA friends. If I never become inspired by or get another tip from any more meetings I go to (which I very much doubt will be the case), I have saved my subscription to them for life many, many times over already. I have never met a more helpful enthusiastic and giving crowd as my fellow potters but you do not bother to go and meet them unless you are in an organisation like the SPA. If you are a Ceramicist working in Scotland I urge you to join, I know it might sound like it would be a load of boring old farts but I think you’d be surprised.
